Patent Report

 

The Patent Report allows you to search drug product patent and exclusivity information as provided by the FDA Orange Book Addendum by either a drug name or an expiration date range. Only products with active patents and exclusivities are reported; once a patent or exclusivity expires, it will be removed at the next update.

Steps (By Drug Name):

  1. From the Clinical Pharmacology home page, click the Reports menu and select Patent Report.

  2. Select By Drug Name.

  3. From the Search Drug Product text box, enter a drug name or drug product (e.g., Lipitor).

  1. Click Go (or press the ENTER key on your keyboard).

 

TIP

  • Click (Hide Report Criteria) button on the right to hide the report building information.

  • Click (Show Report Criteria) button on the right to display the report building information.

  1. For more information about the patent or exclusivity, click the link under Code (e.g., U-161).

  2. A popup window opens with the definition of the code. For a complete listing of patent codes see: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/ob/docs/pattermsall.cfm and for a complete listing of exclusivity codes see: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/ob/docs/excltermsall.cfm.

 

Steps (By Expiration Date Range):

  1. From the Clinical Pharmacology home page, click the Reports menu and select Patent Report.

  2. Select By Expiration Date.  

  3. Enter the Start Date for the search in the mm/dd/yyyy format or click the calendar to select a date.

  4. Enter the End Date for the search in the mm/dd/yyyy format or click the calendar to select a date.

  1. Click Go (or press the ENTER key on your keyboard).

TIP

  • Click (Hide Report Criteria) button on the right to hide the report building information.

  1. Your results display in alphabetical order by Product Name.

You can sort any of the column names by title (e.g., Patent Number). Just click the column name.

For example, if you select the Patent Number, the Patent Numbers sort in ascending order. Re-click and the Patent Numbers display in descending order.
